Election Day: March 23
Early Voting: March 9-16DSCC Member- 46th Representative District, Office AAmelie Desormeaux- #7 on Ballot
Why I’m running for the Democratic State Central Committee
In District 46, covering parts of St. Martin, St. Landry, and Iberia parishes, there are 8,783 registered Democrats. Only 222 of them vote in every single election, of those, only 8 are under 40 years old…and I am one of them. Clearly, the Democrats of Louisiana feel their voice is powerless, and the youth are more disengaged with our democracy than ever before. We need a party dedicated to bringing in more funding and recruiting more candidates at every level of government. We need a party that will inspire us with its commitment to progressive ideals, listen to our needs, and show us that they are worth our time and effort at the polls.I’m proud to be joining over 100 diverse individuals in Louisiana currently running as a part of the Blue Reboot reform initiative.
We don’t need to wait until election day to begin the process of building the connected and engaged community District 46 deserves. With simple action, we can start today!

A few of the issues I hope our Democratic Legislators will address
There are many issues that the people of Louisiana face, whether grappling with climate change and crumbling infrastructure or addressing racial inequality experienced by black and indigenous communities in all aspects of society here. As individuals, we cannot face it all alone, but together, we can each contribute in a small way to make a big change.
Care for the Environment
Louisiana is at the forefront of Climate Change in this country, experienced by extreme weather conditions. Coupled with a long history of exploitative and polluting industries that have a particular disregard for the health and safety of black and indigenous communities.
Women’s Health
In Louisiana, Black women are dying from pregnancy-related deaths at over four times the rate of white women, and reproductive rights are increasingly restricted for all.
Education
All children in our communities deserve access to high-quality public education and teachers deserve dignified and livable wages. Our education system needs to have each child's best interest in mind, eliminating the school-to-prison pipeline and enabling more flexible learning environments.
Criminal Justice & Immigration
Louisiana has the nation’s highest incarceration rate, and discriminatory policing practices harm our communities. Much of the advances we saw made with the 2017 Justice Reinvestment Package to reduce over-incarceration in Louisiana were back tracked with an increase in the detention of our immigrant population.
Global Solidarity
We are one human family and our struggles and triumphs are interconnected. Currently, there is a genocide occurring before our eyes in Gaza, where 30,000 civilians- 70% of them women and children have been killed. We must preserve our humanity and act for the people of Gaza by ending US tax payer funding of war and aggression.
About Me
I’m 29 years old, originally from Abbeville, Louisiana, now living in Henderson with my husband and 2 young sons. I studied political science at UL and public health at LSU. As a community organiser for global issues and local green infrastructure for 10 years, I have met many inspiring Louisianans. I look forward to deepening my connections to the people of District 46, to build greater unity and support for one another.
